The developers of the new Walgreens store in Viroqua are trying to get around our sign ordinance to install an electronic scolling sign. Truthfully, they squeaked in 3 days before the ordinance went into effect. Now everyone will want one. You can read the story here.
The Vernon County Broadcaster quotes Alderman Terry Noble: "I don't think it's too much too ask for a person that is getting $600,000 in TIF district aid to comply with the sign ordinance like anyone else and not come in three days ahead of it taking affect just so they don't have to comply," Noble said. "I don't think that was the spirit of the ordinance."
The question for me remains why are we paying them $600K to come to Viroqua. I think it should be the other way around. How much will it cost me to get a Best Buy on the hamburger edge of town?
